(6.00)Some points for originality here – a good part of this film takes place in the trunk of a car! (OK, technically, the back of a pick-up truck with a hard cap.)
As the movie begins, mob boss Mario (played by William Baldwin) and his screw-up brother Vince (Michael Madsen) drive a pick-up truck to a desert destination.
Then, through a series of flashbacks, we learn that drug supplier Eric (Iván González) is wrapped in bubblewrap in the back of a truck, with no idea how he got there. As he frees himself from the bubblewrap, he finds there's a second person with him, also in bubblewrap: Blake (Cassie Howarth), an attractive woman who looks familiar…
As the movie unfolds, the viewer eventually learns who Eric and Blake are, what their relationships are with Mario and Vince, and what fate has in store for them.
Iván González carries the movie in the principal role, and portrays Eric as irritating, stubborn and determined. Baldwin and Madsen do a good job of depicting the mobsters as taking enjoyment in their viciousness. Howarth is adequate in a role that doesn't give her a lot to do.
This movie has had some terrible reviews, but I think that's from people looking for an action movie rather than a character-driven psychological thriller. I liked the movie, enjoyed the final confrontation, but thought the ending was a bit silly.
I will agree, however, with those complaining about the sound levels on the DVD. The dialogue, especially from Ivan, sometimes was too quiet to understand. There is also a lot of profanity. Be warned that crime, drug use and prostitution are elements in the story.
Can you game it? Not particularly, but the final confrontation is a great example of characters with different victory conditions!
I liked the movie. Recommended.
