Who invented this absurd system, of entrusting all historical records to men named Victor? A far better source would be historians, who provide lesser-known facts about famous people, such as…"

Yes, Lincoln initially felt blacks needed to move to another country. Frederick Douglass played an important role in convincing him that blacks born here were Americans, too.
General George Henry Thomas, born in Virginia and a participant in Nat Turner's Rebellion, opposed using a black brigade for a major role in his plans for the attack at Nashville in 1864, even though one of his best friends commanded the black brigade, and insisted that they were good troops. Ultimately, he gave them an assignment. The day after the battle, he rode over to visit his friend, and told him, "You were right, and I was wrong."
Of course, everybody has opinions, but some folks are willing to modify them in the face of compelling evidence.

I would also note (and not encouraging cocaine use at all) but cocaine use was not actually legal in the US until 1914
