I loved this video from a new channel: link If you told me this outcome, I would have balked. |

Awesome! I hope they continue this venue of blind testing paints for gamers. I have never bought into the hype of modeling paints. It reminds me of people who play Golf: they tell themselves they just need better equipment, to improve their game. The sport of Bowling has become a contest of who has the best balls, and players show up with multiple bags of balls, as each ball is basically a situation-specific trick ball which will achieve the results they need, for them. Bowling has become more about the balls you have in your kit, rather than the skill of the person throwing them. I, too, asked that they do Yellow, next, along with: red, gray, and black. Cheers! |

Agree. Yellow next. Must include Delta Ceramcoat 'Straw', # 02078 |

I only use craftpaints, so I really appreciated that they had a craft paint in the mix— they needed more. And I agree on the list of what should be next: yellow, red, gray and black. |

I was out of town recently and stopped at a game store – the subject of paint came around and I was told that the best coverage for white paint was ProAcryl, so I bought a bottle (haven't tried it yet). Looking though comments on that video there are a lot of paint brands that weren't tried so I'm looking forward to another video… |

The easiest one to get hold of in the UK is GW, which wasn't included ? And many of the ones that were tested aren't available in the UK. |

I skimmed the video. Kudos to them for doing a topic of such high interest, but I find their approach lacking. First they include only hobby paint brands, not any artist brands. The artist brands are made for professional artists and you would expect them to perform better, or if not, to serve as controls. Second they are testing coverage over black primer. Almost every paint manufacturer will tell you for light colors to use gray or white primer, because in general paint is translucent. It is certainly a valid hobby paint style to build up layers over a black primer / undercoat, but that is not the only way to paint miniatures. Third, they don't test mixing at all. White is commonly added to other colors to get a lighter or pastel shade. Some paint pigments aren't good at mixing so this is a necessary test – you might need 2 white paint bottles, one for painting white and a different one for lightening colors. That said overall this is a good methodology and the video is worthwhile to watch, if you use hobby paint brands and work up from black undercoat and are hoping to find a better white. |

Great comments on the subject. I don't use any brand of paint that is focused on miniatures. I dislike the pot style, because it's a nuisance to manage the springy lids, and the dropper bottles dispense puny amounts or paint that's more expensive than a nice single-malt Scotch. Ceramcoat and their high quality competitors formulated exactly what I need and I can use it out of the lid. I think there's too much focus on these overpriced fancy paints. |
